About this opportunity:

The Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS) seeks dedicated law students to join its team of committed human rights lawyers as part of the RACS Volunteer Program.

RACS is currently accepting applications for the February 2020 intake of the RACS Volunteer Program. Please submit your application by Sunday, 2 February 2020. Applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research
  • Drafting statements
  • Assisting with client enquiries
  • Scheduling client appointments
  • Various other administrative and legal tasks

Time required:

You must be willing to commit to at least one full day (9.30am – 5.00pm) for a minimum of period of three months

Skills required:

• Able to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in a confident and a respectful manner.
• Previous volunteer experience
• Administrative and organisational experience
• Initiative
• Sense of humour.


A commitment to human rights and social justice, an understanding of the issues that affect people seeking asylum, and a capacity to problem-solve.
