About this opportunity:

JRS is looking for volunteers to welcome people and assist with the Foodbank program. Foodbank provides fresh food and groceries to clients with a set up similar to a supermarket, allowing people some autonomy to choose their own products. Foodbank is an essential service for our vulnerable clients living below the poverty line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcoming clients, finding their name in the database and allocating a ticket with their name, family size and group eligibility.
  • Showing clients through to the Foodbank and providing assistance as they choose their groceries.
  • Tidying shelves and restocking products from the storeroom.
  • Refer to the checklist in the kitchen regarding daily housekeeping and provisions for hospitality.

Time required:

Foodbank volunteers are required Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9.30am-2pm on a rotating roster.

Skills required:

Good listening and organisational skills would be highly useful.

Characteristics:

Volunteers need to be empathetic to people seeking asylum and respectful of different cultural practices.

Training:

Volunteers are required to attend an Induction Training Day that will cover the history, mission, and values of JRS; the global work of JRS and the global context of forcibly displaced people; the Arrupe Project and its services, case studies, boundaries, and the Volunteer Manual.

Volunteers may also be required to complete a core training program offered by the Humanitarian Hub.
